암호문은 알파벳과 1대1 대응되는 암호로 다음과 같이 이루어져 있다.

여기서 찾고 싶은 함수는 \(f(x) = y\)로 f는 각각 암호 코드 \(x_i\)를 알파벳 \(y_i\)를 변환시켜주는 변환 함수이다.
실제 변환 함수 f를 모른다고 할 때, 임의로 생선한 변환 함수(\(g(x) = \hat y\))가 f함수와 얼마나 유사한 지 혹은 더 비슷하게 만들 수 있도록 어떻게 개선할 수 있을까?
MCMC 방법을 통한 최적화
Markov Chain Monte Carlo 방법을 이용하여 암호문을 해독해본다.(해당 예제는 링크에서 가져왔다)
목표 함수를 해독문 D에 대해 특정 변환 함수 g가 얼마나 잘 맞는지 평가하는 확률로 표현할 수 있다. \(P(D|g)\)
만약 어떤 문서 D가 있을 때, 해당 문서에서 하나의 알파벳이 나올 확률은 이전 알파벳에 의해서만 영향을 받는다고 가정하자(단어 혹은 문맥에 대한 정보를 생략). 그렇다면 알파벳 \(y_i\)가 출현했을 때, \(y_j\)가 나올 확률(전이 확률)을 \(p(y_j | y_i)\)라고 할때, 전체 문서 D가 나올 확률은 다음과 같이 구할 수 있다. \(P(D|g) = \Pi_i^{n-1} p(\hat y_{i+1} | \hat y_i)\)
주어진 데이터가 특정 모델에 의해 설명될 확률(가능도)로 표현 가능하다. 이 확률 값에 로그를 취해 계산을 더 용이하게 할 수 있다.
\[log(P(D|g)) = \sum_i^{n-1} log( p(\hat y_{i+1} |\hat y_i) )\]그리고 암호 변환 함수를 변경했을 때, 새로운 변환 함수로 나온 해독문의 확률이 기존 변환 함수로 나온 해독문 확률보다 얼마나 높은 지 평가할 수 있다.
